Since 1993, the distillery Florihana distill and offer botanically defined 100% natural, pure and certified organic essential oils in accordance with the European (AB), Japanese (JAS) and American (USDA) certifications.
In the European Pharmacopoeia the essential oil is defined as "a fragrant product, generally of complex composition, obtained from a botanically defined plant raw material, either by steam distillation, or by dry distillation, or by a suitable mechanical process without heating. The essential oil is most often separated from the aqueous phase by a physical process that does not make a significant change in its composition.
Steam distillation: "The essential oil is obtained by passing the steam through the plant raw material, in a suitable device. The steam can be generated by an external source or by boiling water below the raw material, or by boiling water in which the plant raw material is immersed. The steam and essential oils are separated by decantation.
Mechanical process: the so-called cold expression essential oil is obtained by a mechanical process without heating. It generally concerns Citrus fruits and involves the expression of the essential oil of the pericarp followed by a separation by a physical process ".
